Por uma (re)tradução comentada de The magic fishbone, de Charles Dickens

Abstract

This work presents an annotated (re)translation into Brazilian Portuguese of Charles Dickens’s short story The Magic Fishbone (1867). As part of the field of Annotated Translation, this study is based on the reflections of Lawrence Venuti (2021) regarding the concepts of domestication and foreignization, in addition to Antoine Berman’s (2013) insights on retranslation, considering the practical implications of these approaches in the translation process. The main objective of this research is to analyze the strategies adopted in the translation of the short story, seeking a balance between preserving the cultural elements of the source text and ensuring the fluency of the target text, while also considering the author's literary style. The study explores issues related to the translation of cultural elements and stylistic choices, as well as the challenges encountered in the translation process. The comments throughout the analysis aim to highlight the decision-making process in translation, as well as its reflective, interpretive, and creative nature, emphasizing the active role of the translator as a cultural mediator, thereby contributing to the understanding of translation practices in literary texts and to the field of Translation Studies.
