POÉTICAS E POLÍTICAS DA PALAVRA Desconstruindo a noção de autoria em Lawrence Venuti

Abstract

Lawrence Venuti has been recognized among scholars of translation as one of the most representative figures in this area this century. Through a historical analysis he establishes an overview of the translation between the 17th and 21st centuries, and considers the subordination of the translation to canonical and logocentric models of authorship and the copyright as one of the most prominent reasons for the secondary position and inferiority which Translation occupies in Western cultural systems. From an investigation based on the reflections of poststructuralist theorists - same theoretical current that Venuti binds - this work seeks to examine the Venuti’s notion of authorship in translation. We note the arguments, analyzes and inconsistencies between the Venuti’s reflection on the role of authorship in the current editorial context and its proposed foreingnization translation as a strategy to circumvent with such a system that imprisons the translation in places submissive. The results point to inconsistencies between the perspectives adopted by Venuti for authorship and reading and his proposal to break with a logocentric and rationalist perspective of translation as copy through a strategy closely linked to a marxist materialist perspective. However, we understand that maneuver within the post-structuralism macro scope can be heeded as legitimate, given that deconstruction opens up space for a reconstruction, which in turn can break the schemes of intelligibility previously assumed.
