A iniciativa para a Integração da Infraestrutura Regional Sul-Americana (IIRSA): uma avaliação dos projetos concluídos do Eixo Amazônico

Abstract

This work proposes to study part of the process of South America’s regional integration, which has experienced a great leap especially with the creation of the initiative for the Integration of Regional Infrastructure in South America (IIRSA), launched during the First Meeting of the Presidents of South America. Later, it was incorporated to The Union of South American Nations (USAN) and to one of its main councils, the South American Council of Infrastructure and Planning (COSIPLAN). IIRSA represented an important step towards the physical integration of countries through their regional infrastructure projects, which sought to rescue the idea of unity for the promotion of social and economic development. In this way, the main projects of the Amazon Hub, which are part of the Integration and Development Hubs (IDHs) of the initiative, were also analyzed, starting from the idea that they were able to contribute to the regional physical integration of the South American countries.
