O direito à literatura: um bem incompressível na visão de Antônio Cândido

Abstract

The present work approaches the literature like a incompressible wealth of the human being, based on Antonio Cândido's reflection about the right to literature. The study is developed through a theoretical-bibliographic survey on the subject, having as reference the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the American Convention on Human Rights and the Constitution of the Federative Republic of Brazil of 1988. It focused on observing the humanizing and transforming character of the art and the literature, which through cultural manifestations promote the sharpening of critical consciousness. The aim was to show the importance of Cordel's Literature as a propagator of the truths to which the masses need to have access for their aggrandizement and of the project of access to art and literature developed by the Ariano Suassuna Cultural Center of the State Court’s of Accounts. It was also a question of researching and analyzing of the activities of the State Book Plan, Reading, Literature and Libraries of the Paraíba, its guiding principles and objectives for raising the reading rate in Paraíba.
