Amaro Cavalcanti e a instrução pública da província do Ceará (1881–1883)

Abstract

This work presents results and discussions fomented during the final paper research, wich had as object Professor Amaro Cavalcanti's performance as Head Teacher of Public Province of Ceará. (1880-1883). The work had as aim to analise Amaro Cavalcanti's actions as intellectual individual in Public Education of Province of Ceará during the Imperial period. To this end, we considered the newspapers - O Cearence, Pedro II and Constituição - reports of Presidents of Provinces and educational legislations from the period 1880 to 1883, as well as other secondary sources, as past educational representation practices , wich revels signs and evidences that allow to understand the conducts of nineteenth Century intellectuals. In this regard the study is inputed in the perspective of new History, taking as theorical- methodological basis, cultural History through Roger Chartier's studies.(1991). And as analysis procedure, the Archeology of Speech, used by Michel Foucault (1996). In the identification of the personal and professional trajectory of this intellectual, we traced the formative journey of this individual. In addition we discussed and reflected about the organization of the public instruction in the Province of Ceará, aware that this segment in social life always suffered interditions of mechamisms of State Power.Through of educational Legislation we understand the organization and the function of the general board of Public educational, which fulfilled the mission of controlling the actions of Primary Schooling teachers of the Provinces, in specific within this research, The Province of Ceará. In Amaro Cavalcanti's performance, in the position of Head Teacher of Public Education, we verified the reports of Presidents of pronvince, where are shown administrative political actions made by them in Public Education. Therefore, we stand against the General Inspector atributions with the actions described in the President of Province's report.Thus,we concluded that the public education board was an instance of teachers' control and their practices, therefore, the Head Teacher was the personage that rugulated and formulated the tools of control and apply them in order to maintain order over the Public Education.
