Organização doméstica, questões de gênero e moralidade em um grupo doméstico potiguara da Paraíba

Abstract

This work is a first effort to analyze how indigenous women can see their own position in the roles of wife, mother, woman and especially how they see themselves within their domestic group. In the development of this effort I will point out how the socialization of the members of a domestic group of the Jaraguá village, which is currently headed by a woman, Mrs. Severina, after the death of her husband was responsible for this group and that will be the central axis in this research. I will analyze how the relations of power take place within this group, where the elders try to pass moral rules and teachings to the younger ones. One perspective that guided me in the research was the analysis of the division of labor by sex, gender and age. I will present, through reports, how the members of this group see the gender issue, starting from the macho view that woman was born to take care of the house and household tasks and the man to take care exclusively of the work of provider of the sustenance, to test how far this corresponds to the reality in the group. I analyze the daily changes in the lives of young people and how this is seen by them and the elders of the group.
