LÁSTIMA, DESTINO, IMPRUDÊNCIA POÉTICA: PERSPECTIVAS SOBRE A MORTE E O MORRER NA OBRA DE VALTER HUGO MÃE

Abstract

As a theme of life to be represented through art, different reflections about death, dying and afterlife permeate literature since the beginning of humanity, either thinking about the end as a tragic, glorious, or simply final event. Reflections instigated by the concepts already established in the imaginary, and often, by the answers found by different religions and thinking currents to such present mysteries. In contemporary literature, an active questioner of human finitude is Valter Hugo Mae, which novel books, marked by poetic language and an intimate narrative perspective attract more readers and researchers each time. In this work, with the theoretical historical contribution of Phillipe Aries, the sociological one from Allan Kellehear and the psychological one from Maria Julia Kovacs among others, we long for analyzing, in a literary reading exercise, the perspectives of death in each one of the novels published by Mae through his career, as like the significance of death and dying for his characters, inserted each one of them in their space-time realities represented by the sensitive and metaphorical optics of the author. We evaluate each one of the main voices in O nosso reino (2004), A desumanização (2013), O remorso de Baltazar Serapião (2006), A máquina de fazer espanhóis (2010), O filho de mil homens (2011), O apocalipse dos trabalhadores (2008) e Homens imprudentemente poéticos (2016) with the intention of understanding the different ways in with the mystery of dying presents itself to each character, considering their historical and religious context defined by the author, and classifying these perspectives as an analysis exercise.
