Mulheres em quadra: entre resistências e estereótipos

Abstract

Women are always living in the shadow of the stereotype of weakness, where they are seen as a symbol of fragility, thus they were recommended to practice activities that were considered feminine to stimulate their elegance. By choosing to practice typically male sports, women are masculine and suffer many prejudices, for the chosen sport, for their clothing, their way of acting. However, for women, the sporting environment presents itself as a place of resistance, stereotypes and empowerment. Thus, this study aimed to understand the presence of sexist stereotypes existing in the sports modalities of Futsal and Women's Volleyball in the city of Joao Pessoa/PB. There is undeniable visibility of sport, in its most distinct dimensions and cultural aspects. However, at the moment when the relationship between sport and women is discussed, the unworthiness of the female role in the sporting world is notorious. Characterized with a research of a qualitative nature with the typology of descriptive study and with a cross-section. The methodological procedure was organized in the systematization, questionnaires and interviews were applied, for the analysis of the information obtained, the Discourse Analysis Technique (AD) was used. The research universe was composed of 20 athletes, 10 of them futsal athletes and 10 female volleyball athletes from the city of João Pessoa/PB, aged between 18 and 35 years old. For data collection, interviews and questionnaires were carried out, using the platforms Google Forms and Google Meet. Due to the Covid-19 worldwide pandemic, all interviews were conducted virtually. We believe that despite all the social confrontations, prejudices and gender stereotypes reported in their speeches suffered by women athletes, female sports practice has become increasingly popular and their prejudice will be overcome in this country. The athlete woman is the symbol of today's modern woman with determination and determination to overcome confrontations and discrimination, seeking to exceed their limits and break the paradigms of the old patterns and social roles imposed on them. And this is a constant struggle whether it's on the court or in life.
