Uma leitura feminista da narrativa de Kate Chopin: o divórcio de madame Célestin

Abstract

This research paper aims to analyze the short story Madame Célestin’s Divorce by Kate Chopin, in the light of feminist criticism, to propose a feminist reading of the aforementioned narrative and to demonstrate that the reading and critical woman’s view privileges reflections neglected by canonical literary criticism. It establishes gender and feminine space as a category in literary studies. The methodology contemplates a dialogue between the life and work of the author to support literary analysis in partnership with the assumptions of feminist criticism. Our analysis favors a reading that highlights women and ennobles them in literary representations, the non-moral judgment of the feminine considering the right to equality, liberty and happiness for all.
