Abstract

The article is presented the patterns of functioning of the archive of the Pro- Rectory of Community Affairs of the Federal University of Paraíba, situated in

João Pessoa/ Paraíba (PRAC-UFPB). The main objective is to examine the adequacy of the target-enterprise of the study in the view of the Archival Science concepts, in order to discuss how they can orientate the elaboration of a management methodology of the archive documents, as well as the identification of the main problems to be surpassed for the access to the archival information. In relation to the methodology, it is about the possibilities classified through the scientific criterion of the hypothetic-deductive method, which is defined by means of the formulation of hypothesis to express the research problem – represented by a debate around the limitations of the functionality of the PRAC-UFPB archive. Therefore, it is a reflection research based on the original view of the author supported by a bibliographic and theoretical review. The results enabled to conclude that many improvements have been introduced in the PRAC archive recently, especially in relation to the dynamics of the access procedures to the available documents, as well as hygiene measures not only of documents, but also of the organizational environment.
