Um olhar sobre o livro didático de língua inglesa, adotado no 6º ano de uma escola pública na cidade de Patos -PB

Abstract

This work presents reflections from an English teacher about the use of the textbook in her classes, called TEAM UP of MacMillan Education. Looking at the methodological organization of this collection. These books are chosen by the PNLD, and distributed by MEC, being those ones used by Professor Ana Maria da Silva Pereira, whose reflections are exposed in this work. She is an English teacher at EEEFM Coriolano de Medeiros, in the city of Patos-PB, where she teaches in Junior School. She has been working as an English teacher for 17 years. The problem of this work is to clarify how the textbook called Team Up can affect, by its methodological organization, the teaching-learning performance in the public school at that level of education mentioned above, observing the use of this didactic material by the teacher in the 6th year, as well as inserting some reflections about the 9th year in this research. In order to evaluate the questions of this work, one teacher named Ana Maria da Silva Pereira was approached, so her reflections were registered as well as those of one of the authors of the TEAM UP collection, Elaine Hodgson. A questionnaire with open questions was applied to the teacher and the author, obtaining a deep understanding about this study. According to observations made in this work, the methodological organization of the book called TEAM UP affects, the performance of teaching-learning in that school observed. This is due to the difficulties faced by the teacher in her classes, due to the student´s English level and in some cases, student mother tongue´s level. The methodological performance is made by the necessity of the collection must adequate to the PNLD criteria in order to be presented and accepted by the public notice. The work makes a comparison between the reflections of one of the authors of the textbook observed, and the English language teacher from the mentioned school, in the sense of seeking answers regarding the use of the TEAM UP collection in the classroom, as well as some considerations about theories applied by the author in the construction of this material. A dialogue is made between the perceptions from the author and the English teacher, with the objective of being into the universe of author´s creation and the reception of the teacher to this work, and thus, to understand if there are inadequacies in the disposition methodological of the textbook observed from the teacher´s point of view, because that professional deals with that textbooks in her work and knows deeply the necessity of the students from EEEFM Coriolano de Medeiros.
