ENTRE A TERRA E O MAR: A REPRESENTAÇÃO FEMININA EM MAR MORTO, DE JORGE AMADO

Abstract

In the western context of a patriarchal society, women, for a long time, were prevented from populating different spaces. Among these is literature. From the understanding that the ways in which men and women approach themes are different, the need arose to understand how the female characters are pictured from the male point of view, the latter without experiencing the reality of women. In this way, the present work intends to propose one of the many possible readings of the novel Sea of Death (1936), by Jorge Amado, evidencing the way in which women are represented in this work, symbolically located between land and sea. To theoretically support the work, ideas from Manguel (2009), Candido (2006), Woolf (2019), Bosi (1975), among others, were used. As well as the notion of representation according to Chartier (1991). As a result, the reading proposed here aims to contribute to Amadian studies and research on the feminine in Brazilian literature.
