Regimes democráticos: uma análise das eleições presidenciais de Ruanda e a sua relação com a democracia

Abstract

Rwanda has a political history that is marked by the colonial process, genocide and the restructuring of the country. These events marked the history of the African continent and today Rwanda is a stable country, with fully functioning public institutions and government, in addition to having the most equal parliament between men and women. Behind the country's success is the figure of Paul Kagame, president of the country and leader of the Rwandan Patriotic Front (FPR), the first president elected through elections in the country after the 1994 genocide. However, his election is extremely questioned by the international community, with several signs of fraud in all elections held to date. To understand whether Rwanda's elections are held in a way that respects democratic principles, this monograph will use a qualitative approach, seeking to understand and interpret concepts and actions described during the work, in an exploratory way.
