Estudo comparativo entre os valores de pressão intraocular aferidos por tonômetros de aplanação(tono-penavia®) e rebote (tonovetplus®)em gatos sadios

Abstract

The ophthalmic examination constitutes an important part of the clinical evaluation in routine medical care for felines, considering the diversity of systemic conditions that can be manifest through ocular signs that affect intraocular pressure (IOP), which is measured using devices such as tonometers. However, information on tonometer validations in feline species are scare and, currently, there are numerous portable models of applanation and rebound tonometers on the market. Portable devices are routinely used to measure IOP in veterinary ophthalmology. The objective of this research was to compare the IOP values obtained by the applanation tonometer Tono-Pen Avia® with the values of the rebound tonometer TonoVet Plus® in domestic cats without ocular alterations. A total of 77 healthy cats (144 eyes) were evaluated. They were submitted to the same measurement protocol: first, the eyes were randomly selected and soon after, they were submitted to evaluation with the TonoVet Plus®. Anesthetic eye drops were instilled (Anestalcon®) and following the evaluation with the Tono Pen Avia® was performed. Data were statistically analyzed by ANOVA test, linear regression and Bland-Altman. In this study, IOP values obtained with the TonoVet Plus® were significantly higher, with no differences between the right and left eyes. The mean IOP found were 20.03 ± 4.23 mmHg with the TonoVet Plus® and 14.04 ± 3.12 mmHg with the Tono-Pen Avia®. The data presented here will allow clinicians to interpret ophthalmological examinations performed on felines with both tonometers, as both provide accurate and reproducible information, with low variability.
