Recursos argumentativos: uma análise linguística dos textos argumentativos do livro New Framework

Abstract

Nowadays argumentative texts are of a great importance in student’s academic formation, because textual type teaches to student in practice how to convince, to persuade and how to choose appropriate evidence to make the text more interesting and compelling to the reader. Keeping this in mind, this paper analyzes two didactic books of the New Framework series of different levels used in undergraduate course Letras Inglês at UFPB, the New Framework 2A Pre-Intermediate and Advanced New Framework 5A. It was verified in detail the uses and the types of argumentative evidence presented in argumentative texts in the analyzed books, and also it was the link that it has with the linguistic levels in the chosen books. Through this analysis, it could be noticed that in the book of advanced level were found more instances of evidence of descriptive examples type and statistical data type in order to make the texts more objective, while in the book of pre-intermediate level were found more evidence of descriptive examples type and report type, which makes the texts closer to the interpersonal subjectivity. In this analysis was also possible to see that the argumentative evidences are directly related to the level of the proficiency of the didactic book. The understanding of the uses of different types of evidence in argumentative text can be a great tool for better English language learning.
