Jânio: herói ou bandido?

Abstract

What is a reporter? By general definition, a news gatherer. Sometimes a fact finder. When I started, it was said that a reporter should write about what the characters do not want to disclose. The rest is promotion. The reporter, therefore, has the fundamental mission of revealing the truth of the facts to the people so that they can judge with real knowledge of the facts. It is in this sense that we must understand Jefferson's unforgettable statement about the value of the press in a democracy. In totalitarian countries, communist or not, it cannot be free for this reason. At the beginning of 1981, we are going through a renaissance phase of the Brazilian press, which is largely due to the process of redemocratization. It is a shame that the President of the Republic does not dare to do more. Unfortunately, radio and television stations, subject to the concession system, continue to be hampered, but the first breaths of freedom can be felt in the major newspapers. In the state press, with a smaller structure, there is, in addition to the problems arising from the regime after 1964, the economic pressure from governments that, in a certain way, have control over its survival.
