Abstract

This final paper analyzes the impact of WhatsApp use on Brazilian society, focusing on its social, political, and economic consequences. The research investigates how the platform has transformed social interactions, highlighting the speed of information and the democratization of public debate. Significant events, such as the blocking of WhatsApp, are explored, considering the legal implications and the reactions of civil society and regulatory bodies. The methodology combines qualitative and quantitative methods, including data analysis on WhatsApp use and a review of relevant literature. The need for a regulatory framework that balances the protection of personal data is discussed in light of the Internet Civil Rights Framework and the General Data Protection Law, which seek to protect users' privacy but still present gaps that must be addressed. The conclusions highlight the importance of ongoing dialogue between legislators, digital platforms, and civil society, emphasizing shared responsibility for practices in the digital sphere. It is essential that the State develop policies that guarantee a safe and inclusive digital environment, promoting the protection of privacy and freedom of expression. Thus, this study aims to contribute to the understanding of the effects of social networks on contemporary society and to the construction of a fairer and more ethical digital future, essential to ensure that citizens' rights are respected and protected.
