"Minha mãe me ensinou de tudo, muitas tramas pra gente" : experiências e repassos de epistemes fiadas e tecidas por mulheres da cidade de Jataí - GO

Abstract

I follow threads and weaves created by women in Goiás, state of Brazil. This research in the field of History teaching and historical knowledge aims to understand the strategies and knowledge constructions of women spinners and weavers in the city of Jataí, and their own forms of knowing. It starts from the idea that the set of epistemologies that underlie what is considered knowledge were historically constructed, excluding a variety of people, such as women. When considering manual weaving as, on one hand, a work of the 'female private universe,' or on the other hand, a spectacle of cultural sediment, without highlighting the disputes and constructions at its core, notions are created about this activity as having 'less' significance. This disregards a whole series of knowledge produced by these women. In this context, we start from theoretical-methodological reflections of feminist epistemologies, intertwining them with contracolonial and decolonial lenses. This approach makes it possible to systematically understand how knowledge is recognized and validated within modern western reason. Throughout the study, the research method was articulated by mobilizing audiovisual sources (2020-2021), interviews from the collection of the Jataí Historical Museum, as well as analyses of promotional leaflets from the Mutirão Fiandeiras e Tecedeiras of Jataí, Goiás (1998-2019), and weaving graphics (gráfico de rapassos) (1930-1998). Therefore, the research efforts will contextualize the importance of weaving in rural life and the relationships between spinners and weavers, while understanding the (re)constructions and epistemological experiences of these women.
