Restrições Fonotáticas na Estrutura Silábica do Português Brasileiro: Possíveis problemas encontrados durante aquisição de uma língua estrangeira

Abstract

This work aims to understand the Phonotatic structure of Brazilian Portuguese and English language. We will try to understand certain violations in Brazilian Portuguese syllable structure when Brazilian learners of English as a foreign language try to use their phonological inventory to speak the target language. Vowel addition (Epenthesis Vowel) [i] could be inserted in the beginning of English words as well as in the final that does not have equivalent syllable structure in Brazilian Portuguese. This addition aims to correct some consonant clusters that do not exist in Brazilian syllable structure. A research will be carry out with students from the undergraduation Letras Course – English at Federal University of Paraíba to analyze those phenomena. This research will be divided into 2 groups: a) to verify if students who did not study the English Phonology and Phonetics I course would be able to avoid the insertion of Epenthesis Vowel. b) to verify if students who studied the English Phonology and Phonetics I course would be able to avoid the insertion of Epenthesis Vowel.
