OS HOMENS DO CHÃO DE ESTRELAS: INVESTIGANDO AS REPRESENTAÇÕES GAYS MASCULINAS EM TATUAGEM, DE HILTON LACERDA

Abstract

This academic research, based on an academic and political position, that aims the importance of the values of a democratic society, is a response to attempts to annihilate and silence the LGBTQIA+ community. Investigating the past of gay men’s representations in cinema, we established the effects of such representations on this part of the community and reinforced the importance of fair representations for the realization of a full existence. The general objective of this research is to analyze gay male representations of the movie Tatuagem (2013), aligned with this general focus, we have as specific objectives: to briefly review the history of gay representations in cinema seeking to understand the criticisms and demands from the LBGBTQIA+ community, critically analyze gay male representations in Tatuagem and identify whether such representations reinforce or challenge defamatory stereotypes and controlling images. In this academic research we have developed an investigation based on Fairclough’s three-dimensional model (2015 [1989]) for Critical Discourse Analysis (ACD) and the concept of controlling images proposed by Collins (2019), of gay men’s representations presents in the film Tatuagem directed by Hilton Lacerda. In order to arrange our research, we first research national films that had gay individuals as protagonists and at the same time had achieved considerable public and critical success, as a result we found the production Tatuagem. General results demonstrate how, through discursive and semiotic resources, the image of gay men was associated with several negative and dehumanizing stereotypes. However, there is a tendency to disrupt the past of representations with controlling images and offensive stereotypes as evidenced in the research.
