Desafios de ensinar inglês para pessoas com deficiência visual no Instituto dos Cegos da Paraíba: analisando os materiais didáticos

Abstract

This research aims to study the didactic materials used in the english classes at Instituto dos Cegos da Paraíba. But is not only that, I also aim, in the first moment to show, in a general way, the history and conquests of disable people (not only the visual impairment). Having said that, the following topic is about the correct term, if it is “blind” or “visual impaiment” and then we go on to the difference of blindness and low vision. Then we will know a little bit of the institution itself. In the second moment we will talk about the teaching of english as a foreign language and for that firs we will talk about the diferences from student to student and what we, teachers, need to consider in class. We will also talk about the different types of leraning startegies for blind students and what na english teacher as a foreign language should do when giving class for people with visual impairment. In the third and last moment, the theme is ditactic material for the teaching of english, in which firstly we will talk about it in a more general way and then in a more specific way we will turn our eyes to the materials in in the english classes at the institute. Right after that we have the conclusion. This research was done by the support of books, monographs, articles and even by colecting informations with the help of people who work at the institute. Being, myself, a intern in the place for two semesters in a row some of the thing written were also by the experiences that I had and observations that I made.
