O PAPEL DO ASSISTENTE SOCIAL NO PROTAGONISMO DO DIREITO À VIDA E A SAÚDE DAS CRIANCAS E DOS ADOLESCENTES ATENDIDOS NO HOSPITAL MUNICIPAL VALENTINA

Abstract

This study aimed to contribute to a greater understanding of the approach to the rights of children and adolescents, with an emphasis on health care as an essential factor in the life rights. From the analysis of the care provided at the Hospital Municipal Valentina, which is located in João Pessoa city, we sought to identify actions capable of effectively ensuring these rights. This experience represented an effort to contribute to the recognition of health social workers as protagonists working in the front line with the expressions of the social issue that impact on children's health. The objective of the study was to know the demands and referrals made in the Social Service in the socio-occupational space of urgency, emergency and hospitalization within the institution. The specific objectives were to describe the documents that influenced the evolution of the right to health of children and adolescents; identify actions and public social policies worked on in the HMV; correlate the data referring to health care with the existing protection measures in the legislation (Statute of the Child and Adolescent, Federal Constitution of 1988, among other legal provisions). Bibliographic and documentary research were used as a methodological resource. The innovations brought by the ECA with impacts on the Unified Health System (SUS) and on other sectorial policies materialized social protection in health establishments. The results of the data analysis made it possible to know the demands made by social workers regarding the rights of the child-juvenile population, including the management of public social policies aimed at enforcing the rights regulated by the Statute and by the Federal Constitution of 1988. Thus, in the HMV it was observed that the Service Social took a leading role in confronting the different forms of violation of the right to life and health. It was found that the professionals in the sector act as mediators between the institution, families assisted and social rights defense bodies. Finally, it was suggested, as a way of optimizing this line of care, the creation of more interactive communication tools with the Guardianship Councils, in addition to the training of all professionals involved in the care.
