Ironia e humor no paródico" The semi-sentimental dragon", de Israel Zangwill.

Abstract

This work aims to analyse parody as a literary genre and its implications in the act of reading, as well as the elements of irony and humour that constitute Israel Zangwill’s short story “The semi-sentimental dragon”, our object of research. Demystifying the concepts of parody, found in the definitions of the ordinary dictionaries, as an imitation that ridicules, we intend to present parody as repetition with critical distance, that establishes the difference within the similarity. To reach our objective, we consider Linda Hutcheon (1985), Beth Brait (1996), Norman Knox (1973) e Nadja Hermann (2005) as our theoretical and critical support. The analysis of the short story, under the light of the theories proposed, revealed the presence of a relation between ethics and aesthetics in this parodic narrative, with post-modern features, producing new realities and perspectives that may guide the human act.
