GASTRONOMIA AFRO-BRASILEIRA: COMPREENDENDO A ORIGEM, HISTÓRIAS E ESTÓRIAS DA FEIJOADA

Abstract

The theoretical essay aims to understand the origin of the most popular dish in Brazil: feijoada. The one that carries with it unique aromas and flavors, boasting multiple dense layers of values, essences and poranduba. The aim was to distort the romanticized story still widespread in the heart of society and bring a new perspective based on the most recent studies. Based on the exploration of pre-existing studies and articles, the essay found that both the current historical line of thought, as well as the story, have gaps to be filled. The romanticized story fails for presenting sociological inconsistencies, the studies make a correct scientific analysis, but fail in a Eurocentrist verification, where the oppressor ends up telling the story of the oppressed, which results in a restriction in the voice of the Afro-Brazilian, resulting in an analysis of the construction and constitution of the elite Brazilian society. A reformulation about the origin is suggested, removing the romantic aspects and untruths, without an exacerbated Eurocentrism of a purely methodical and mathematical analysis.
